Speaker : Dr. Maria Gokieli Abstract: Phase transitions and attractors I would like to introduce a model of processes occuring in alloys, when submitted to sudden lowering of temperature, and to show how the mathematical notion of attractor is related to things that happen, helping to understand them. The origin of the model I will present goes back to Van der Waals; the first analyses explaining the modelled phenomena appeared in the last ten years.
