Abstract: Competitive adsorption on BaO(100) of various species relevant in storage catalytic converters

Storage catalytic converters are used for exhaust gas aftertreatment of fuel-economic lean-burn gasoline engines. The operation principle is based on periodic storage (lean) and reduction (rich) engine cycles, during which metal oxides such as BaO are able to store and release NOx. The interaction of NO2, CO2 and H2O with the surface are investigated in terms of adsorption site and adsorption geometry.
