Abstract: Introduction to Quantum Transport

This talk will provide a brief introduction into the field of electronic quantum transport in semiconductors. At low temperatures, conduction band electrons can have a mean free path length of up to a few micrometers. In this case the transport of electrons trough such a microstructure is gouverned by quantum mechanical effects, i.e., the shape of the structure becomes important. For these ballistic electrons, Ohms law is not fulfilled.
An overview of the Greens function formalism used to calculate the conductance of microstructures will be given, as well as an empirical ansatz for the treatment of inelastic processes.
