Abstract: The role of white blood cells during inflammation

The human immune system defends our body against foreign pathogens like bacteria in a very successful way. It consists of two different parts: the adaptive immunity and the innate immunity. In the first part of this talk a brief overview over the cells of our immune system and their functions will be given and, in the second part, some modeling results of oscillations and wave propagation in a special immune cell type, the neutrophil granulocytes, will be presented.
